|Network Services - Wired Installation|
For stability and reliability you can always count on a wired network. Even if you're using wireless access points, a cabled backbone is necessary. If you're installing a new network from scratch, using cat 6 cable is a viable option. It is capable of 2 1/2 times the transmission speed of cat 5 but both the cable and the connectors must be from the same manufacturer. If this is not an option or you don't want to be locked in to one supplier, then cat 5E is still a good choice.
If you're using or considering using VOIP, packet prioritization is a must. Voice traffic must always have preference over data. Also known as Quality of Service (QOS), these prioritizing mechanisms play a vital role in mixed media and mixed protocol networks.
