Google Chrome Shines

I took my first look at Googles new browser today. Chrome uses a minimalist approach, combining features where possible. One example of this is the address bar which doubles as the search box. Chromes opens to a page of visual links to your most visited sites, a nice feature.



It's similar to Fast Dial, one of my favorite Firefox addons. As far as using resources goes, it uses about the same amount of RAM as IE7 and much less than Firefox. It's overall quicker than IE and Firefox, and similar to Safari. Chrome adds functionality to tabbed browsing and lets you surf anamously using the Incognito feature. The download bar that appears at the bottom of the page is a cool feature. It shows recent downloads and vanishes when you change pages. Security is excellent with each tab being sandboxed. Overall, it just looks a lot less cluttered than other browsers.

There are a few drawbacks. No addons yet and the history is very basic. But it is in the initial Beta stage, so I'm sure the next few releases will show improvement. All in all, Google Chrome is off to a shining start. Here's a download link for XP and Vista; http://www.google.com/chrome.

LeTip Weekly Showcase 2

Le Tip Mt Sinai Member of the Week

Each week I highlight another member of my Mt Sinai Le Tip chapter. This week's showcase is for Treimane Eason. Treimane is the Land Surveyor of the group. His company is T. Eason Land Surveyor PC of Port Jefferson Station with a satellite office in Queens, New York. They have over 25 years experience in survey and consulting. Projects include commercial, residental, institutional and industrial sites.

I've done computer work in Treimane's office and he's hardly ever there. He's out doing what he loves to do, surveying. I asked him how long he's been doing this and he answered "Surveying is all I've ever done". It shows in his work and his commitment to getting jobs done on a timely basis.
