asterisk IP PBXThe open-source Asterisk project has been gaining a lot of traction these last few years. Small businesses as well as large, have implemented all or parts of this software. Asterisk is a free, full fledged Private Branch Exchange (IP PBX) suite also including call center and customer relationship management (CRM) packages. To quote their website "Asterisk-based telephony solutions offer a rich and flexible feature set. Asterisk offers both classical PBX functionality and advanced features, and interoperates with traditional standards-based telephony systems and Voice over IP systems. Asterisk offers the advanced features that are often associated with large, high end (and high cost) proprietary PBXs." Couldn't have said it better myself. Outdated Communications?

The ways we communicate seem to be growing exponentially. The analog telephone was good for over 100 years. Then the personal computer with Email became ubiquitous. After 10 years or so Email is already being superseded by Instant Messaging, PC Video Conferencing and free Telephony (Skype and other VOIP applications). LeTip Weekly Showcase 2

Le Tip Mt Sinai Member of the Week

Each week I highlight another member of my Mt Sinai Le Tip chapter. This week's showcase is for Treimane Eason. Treimane is the Land Surveyor of the group. His company is T. Eason Land Surveyor PC of Port Jefferson Station with a satellite office in Queens, New York. They have over 25 years experience in survey and consulting. Projects include commercial, residental, institutional and industrial sites.

I've done computer work in Treimane's office and he's hardly ever there. He's out doing what he loves to do, surveying. I asked him how long he's been doing this and he answered "Surveying is all I've ever done". It shows in his work and his commitment to getting jobs done on a timely basis.

Google Chrome Shines

I took my first look at Googles new browser today. Chrome uses a minimalist approach, combining features where possible. One example of this is the address bar which doubles as the search box. Chromes opens to a page of visual links to your most visited sites, a nice feature.
